He was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat, tripled to left-center field, and singled through the right side in his next two. He has elite speed and had a 4.3-second home-to-first time on a turn. After the hit by pitch, he stole second and third base with ease.
He had a quiet day, going 0-for-2 with a groundout, flyout and intentional walk. He was aggressive, swinging early in the count. He starts with a tall set-up and has all but eliminated his high leg kick. The stroke is quick and compact. On his groundout, he pulled up about two-thirds of the way down the line and still got there in 4.2 seconds.
7/21/18 - has been one of the most consistent offensive performers all summer long, and he continued his trend of barreling up premium pitching at Wrigley. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed hitting centerfielder is the quintessential leadoff hitter with advanced barrel control skills and impressive pop for his stature. The UCLA recruit turned on a 93-mph fastball for a double to right field, then proceeded to steal third base. Carroll also singled sharply to right field and walked. He has a compact, balanced swing and rarely chases pitches out of the zone. He’s patient and relaxed and generates easy bat speed with his hands. He also floats around the bases, has a strong, accurate arm from the outfield and plays hard.
6/27/18 - Pounced on an 88 mph fastball up in the zone for a solo home run to right field. The UCLA recruit also had an RBI in the first game, taking an inside-out swing on a 95 mph fastball in for a single over shortstop.
6/21/18 - Had another strong day, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. He especially showed off his speed, getting down the line in under 4.1 seconds on a groundout and when Volpe flared a double into shallow right-center field, Carroll didn’t break stride and scored from first base.
6/19/18 - Had a good day, going 2-for-4 with a triple, run scored and RBI. He struck out looking in his first at-bat, but laced the three-bagger in his second, squaring up a 90 mph fastball to right-center field. He then stayed with a curveball down and away for an RBI single and lined out hard to left field in his final at-bat.
Area Code Games 2017 - Big leg kick load. Quick hands and short swing. Covers ground in center field, making a sliding catch. Show solid arm strength. Slapped 90 mph fastball the other way for a single. Battled pitches and worked a walk.
