VA/DC State Games
Smith is 6-2 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an open balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, very quick to the ball, some whip in his bat, uphill swing path, very strong at contact with extension through the ball, natural loft in his swing, showed a pull approach with easy home run power that way, has power to all fields and shows gap to gap approach in game, exit velocity was 98. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands, works through ball to a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 77. Ran a 7.00 60 yard dash.

Smith has a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance. Low leg kick stride on line, hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good balance in his lower half at contact. Stays inside, short and quick to contact. Showed a good approach working gap to gap, slightly uphill swing path with plenty of power in the middle of the field. Singled sharply to right in his third at-bat. Sneaky quick for his size and position, very natural baserunner who can steal and is good at taking an extra base, almost like a sideline to sideline middle linebacker with a knack for the barrel. Plenty of power present but prefers to work gap to gap, home runs will come in bunches when he starts turning on balls while staying short.

Smith played 2B in the game and looked fine there athletically. At the plate he had a big day. Hits from the left side, slightly open athletic stance, leg kick stride smooth load back, good rhythm to his swing. Explosive hip rotation and good balance to lower half, very short to ball, stayed inside, showed good approach working the middle of the field. Lightning fast bat that is whippy, explosive batspeed, power to all fields present with a chance to grow into home run power to all fields. Still has projection left and has speed and baserunning smarts that he uses as a weapon. First swing in the video is a double over the centerfielder's head. The second swing is a ground ball up the middle that he turned into a hustle double because of how deep the centerfielder was playing. He got walked in his other at-bats.
