2/11/18

Swung it well and showed well above average catch and throw skills. However, what he does at a very high level ... doesn’t show up in the box score. Andrews has continued to improve his craft behind the dish and he is making the finer points of catching look easier and more natural, The Miami (OH) recruit grades as a near plus blocker with high level receiving skills. His ability to steal strikes and keep the ball in front of him should make him an early candidate for playing time once he reaches Oxford.

6/6/17
A righty swinger that starts in an athletic setup. Uses a leg kick/bat tip combination for his loading sequence. Barrel maintains momentum prior to launch. Path is slightly uphill with above average natural tools. Gap to gap pop, and used the whole field, Flashed power potential to his pull side. Impressive catch and throw skills behind the plate. Checks all the boxes. Athletic and very clean mechanically.

2/12/17
5-foot-11, 180-pound frame. Andrews, a 2018 grad out of Watterson HS, looked polished in all facets of his game. His defensive abilities have always been near the top of his class, and on Sunday, he showed that his bat has really come a long way since the summer. At the plate, he put together one of the more impressive BP rounds of the day, regardless of position. Andrews has a swing full of fluid movements that create a ton of energy into contact. He consistently drove balls with authority to his pull side, multiple of which looked to have a chance to leave the yard. Behind the plate, he handled the talented arms well in the bullpen session and showed above average catch and throws skills in the defensive workout.

6/6/16
5-foot-11, 185-pound, athletic frame. At the plate he starts with an athletic setup from the right side. Uses a leg kick to start his loading sequence before a short stride forward. Will need to work on timing as he was late during batting practice which prevented him from getting weight transfer into contact. The strength and batspeed is there. Topped out at 87 mph off the tee and ran a 7.68 60-yard dash. Solid frame for the position. Arm plays well behind the plate. Reached a top velocity of 79 mph from the crouch with pop times ranging between 1.99 to 2.03. Needs to continue developing touch and finish on some throws. In particular, needs to work on getting the ball downhill. Footwork plays well behind the plate.

2/15/16
A talented catching prospect with an athletic build at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds. At the plate he starts in an athletic, open setup from the right side. Uses a leg kick to gather his weight while starting to move his hands back. During his aggressive stride forward he finishes his upper body load creating good separation. Gets the bat through the zone with definite batspeed on an even path. Reached a top exit velocity of 86 mph. Very mechanically sound behind the plate. He uses good footwork to get himself square to second base with above average transfer skills. Pop times were impressive ranging from 1.95-2.01. Showed his arm strength by registering a top velocity of 80 mph on his throws to second. Ran a 4.47 from home to first.

6/30/15
5-foot-10, 160-pound thinner, athletic body frame. From the crouch he uses good footwork to get himself turned and in line on his throws to second base. He has a quick exchange and throws with a clean, short arm action coming from an upper ¾ slot, using 75 mph velocity to produce pop times between 1.99-2.02, showing some arm strength. Right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and lands slightly more closed, really loading up on his back leg before he swings. He uses a fluid hands back load. Swings with a flatter bat path through the zone, finishing with a one-handed follow through. Reached a top exit velocity of 82 mph and ran a 4.78 out of the batter’s box to first base.

2/7/15
5-foot-9, 155-pound solid build. From the crouch he needs to get more in line with his footwork, but shows a good, quick exchange. From a short, high-¾ slot his pop times ranged between 2.19 and 2.27 with 73 mph arm strength down to second. Right-handed hitter that starts standing up and way open. High hands and gets to closed. Good rhythm in his hands. Swing is flat and quick with top exit velocity of 80 mph and ran 4.7 home to first.
