6.3.18
Wells has a lanky and athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 165-pounds. He begins his pitching motion on the first base side of the mound with his feet staggered. Consistently changes hand position creating rhythm and tempo throughout. A normal leg kick leads into a firm base and downhill shoulders at foot strike. Creates a good angle between lower and upper half. Long, clean arm action. Pitched from a high 3/4 arm slot. From the stretch, feet begin slightly closed, back leg is preset, and hands start at hip height. Uses a slide step. Wells’ fastball topped at 75 MPH while sitting mostly at 72-74 MPH. Slider showed 11/5 shape in and out of the zone at 64-65 MPH. Changeup had both run and fade at 65-66 MPH.
