8/4/18 - Hewlett touched 87 mph twice and sat mostly at 84-86 mph with his fastball. Hewlett comes from an over the top arm slot and throws on a down hill plane. His slider worked at 72-74 mph, with 2-to-8 action. He has an athletic delivery and repeats his release point well. He finished with two strikes on the day, working a quick second inning with soft contact.
6/13/17 - Hewlett is a 6-foot 155-pound left handed hitting outfielder and left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.57 laser timed 60 and a 4.60 home to first. He has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, simple and repeatable movements, short stride, level path through the zone, consistent hard gap-to-gap line drives during batting practice. In the outfield, 84 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, works through the ball, momentum to throw, clean transfer, quick feet, mostly accurate throws. On the mound, Hewlett worked with a quick tempo between pitches, athletic frame with athletic delivery, slight tuck at balance point, high three quarters release, quick arm speed, repeats delivery, throws downhill, life at the end of fastball, 78-82 mph, slider has sharp and late 1-to-7 shape, aggressive in the zone with command of both pitches, frame capable of added strength to already clean arm action and pitchability.
