PBR Far North Preseason ID - FB 81-83, CHG 75-76, SLD 75-76
A two-way player we've seen well a few times, Edwards looks poised for a strong 2020 season. A lean and streamlined 6-foot-0, 175-pounds, he's proportioned well when regarding him as either a pitcher or a catcher. On the mound he displayed clean mechanics, with an online delivery that incorporates good rhythm and consistency of the release point. The slider has late, somewhat smooth break and the change-up showed feel and late depth on the arm side. As a catcher, his 1.94 pop time was lowest of the participants and the 76 mph velocity should continue to creep toward 80 mph and possibly above, especially given that he's a sophomore.

Fall tournament - Though not the best we've seen Edwards in regard to velocity, the other attributes that need to be consistent were present. The lower velocity (FB peaked at 78 mph, we've seen up to 82) simply indicates he's tiring at the end of a long year, and that's understandable. He's got an easy overhand and loose arm action. The athletic delivery is consistent and repeatable and is built to manipulate the ball well at release point. Showed three pitches, with the slider looking like a pitch he can use to steal strikes in fastball counts and also as an out-pitch. He can start the slider in the zone and get swings and misses. One to keep an eye on during the spring 2020 season.

5/27/19 NCA Underclass ID (RHP) - Long, medium frame with a high waist and some strength. Stretch only delivery. Hands start at waist showing small lift with high front leg; clean break allows for length out of the glove with controlled swing after small glove tap. Shows good posture with high front knee as back knee pushes momentum forward; loose hips rotate easily finishing over straight front leg. Front foot will spin off when landing on heel; better command of pitches when more solid on front leg. Arm is loose and fluid with late speed getting to H-3/4 release; easy actions and developable arm. FB 79-81 flashing some run and life up through the zone. CB 71-72 MPH downer with short overhand spin being used to arm-side of plate. CHG 70-73 with late sink off FB look; chance to be a plus pitch with excellent feel. CB flashes as average with possibly more. Second time impressing us on the mound at an event and has upside on the mound.

5/27/19 - N. CA Underclass ID (C) - High waist, long-medium frame with strength in legs and squared shoulders. Heavier legs with more agility than straight line speed (7.81 60yd). Wide, balanced stance with high hands and high back elbow. Front toe gets high with rotation as small hand movement back turning knob to catcher. Barrel stays level with higher finish showing bat speed and ability to backspin the ball into pull side gap and middle of the field (80 EV); allows full turns in swing with strong usage of lower half flashing more pop in future. Turned high stance at home when working pop-times using quick transfer from glove (2.01-2.26 Pop); quick release doesn’t show true arm strength as well as when he’s on the mound (73 MPH). Flashes blocking skills with rolled shoulders. Glove hand and wrist strength when receiving. On hill shows clean, compact quick H-3/4 arm slot from stretch only. Athletic and repeatable delivery with strong attributes including 3-pitch mix. FB 78-79 T82, CHG 70-73 with very late action flashing above-average, CB 71-72 tight overhand spin with some tumble.

PBR N CA Preseason All-State (catcher) - Long, medium frame that projects a larger frame once fully developed; length in limbs and plenty of projectable space to keep adding to frame. Heavier feet, moving decently for his size (7.89 60-yd). Sets slightly turned behind the plate with ability to move ball to throwing hand quickly in exchange; body was soft when blocking keeping himself in a good position for recovery. Compact arm that kept the ball on the bag showing projectable strength in the arm (2.02-2.15 pop, 71 MPH). Wide, slightly crouch and balanced stance at the plate with high back elbow/high hands; slight load with toe tap timing. Bat works on slight uphill with quickness into the zone and ability to drive the back hip (81 exit velo); flashed pull side gap power with line drives into the gap especially when getting full body turn.

1/27/19

PBR N CA Preseason All-State (pitcher) - Lean bodied young player at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds, strength developing, overhand slot, good rhythm and good arm speed, on-line direction down slope, finishes with some negative momentum as he spins off a little bit at times, bit more lower body stability and the stuff will increase due to better leverage, as it is, the stuff is good for a freshman pitcher, fastball pretty crisp (T82) with flashes of good angle through zone and occasional late run, big 11/6 type curveball with steady continual break, threw best curveball from stretch, showed change-up as a still developing pitch as he works toward consistent feel, did keep the change-up down more often than not.

10/27/18

Fall tournament - Talented 2022 pitcher, not overly built as of yet but wide sloped shoulders, lanky proportions on 5-foot-10 155-pound body, smooth easy actions/movements on mound, rhythmic delivery with hands starting lower hands, overhand slot, loose smooth shoulder turn, ball exits easy, fastball up to 80 mph with occasional tilt, big 12/6 curveball 68 mph, will throw HARD someday and it will come easy to him.
