The Bruin backstop followed up his breakout spring as a true freshman (.375/.476/.500 over 168 plate appearances) with a solid Cape showing in 2019, slashing .250/.400/.308 with more walks (8) than strikeouts (7) in his 60 regular season plate appearances. He then heated up in the Cape playoffs going 6-for-12 with no strikeouts. Cardenas shows quick hands at the plate and solid arm strength with good blocking and receiving skills behind it. A strong year offensively in 2021 will embolden his lofty ranking, while a continuance of his overly aggressive approach is likely to lead to some struggles and too much soft contact.
