7/17/19

There’s strength to the frame, particularly in the lower half, with room to grow through the shoulders. Porchas shows a clean, loose arm that has some whippyness to it. While his command was spotty today, his stuff was its usual flashy self. Working 86-87 and touching 88 mph with the fastball while flashing downhill angle and some late life. The curveball was hit-and-miss today in terms of command, but it flashes sharp break and depth when on.

3/19/19

2022 RHP Matthew Porchas the uncommitted freshman is 6-foot-3 180-pound pitcher with thick legs a high waist and backside. Near ideal pitchers frame. Long limbs with a base that can add weight in future. Starts windup with rocking motion and old school hands above the head before completing windup and delivery. Has a three-quarter arm slot, with a loose, relaxed, fast arm. Momentum is consistent and controlled throughout windup. Repeats delivery for the most part until the max effort fastball is unleashed, where it tends to lose command. It was sitting 86-90, touching 91-92. Porchas tends to land on his heal with his stride leg creating a hard landing, and some of the time, his arm plays catch up and misses up and away.  Demonstrates excellent hip coil to generate energy and drive down the mound. Ball explodes out of his hand with some violence. Threw a hard curveball featuring tight spin and vertical drop at 73-75 and mixed in a developing changeup at 83. Porchas is a freshman with serious upside because of his great frame and foundation to build on. If Porchas can stay healthy he has the stuff to be a front-line starter at a D1 school. Really looking forward to see his maturation process over the next few years.
