USC commit. Smith has improved his overall game so much since a year ago at this time. The athletic, rangy, and very strong MIF shows great hands, footwork and glovework to go with a strong, accurate arm. Many believe he has the tools to play shortstop, but may profile best at second base. Shows his power at the plate in the form of hard hit line drives to the gaps. There’s sneaky power in there too. The USC commit started the day running a 6.89 sixty.
Five-foot-7, 140-pound, strong throughout with a barrel chest and strength down through the arms. Significant strength in the lower half. Shows excellent range to both side and enough arm strength to make throws from deep in the hole. Charges balls aggressively and under control usually make a catch-and-throw play quickly. Has tools to play SS now that could be the foundation for staying there in the future. At the plate he shows flashes of potential. Consistency with the barrel has been a challenge. When timing is good the barrel gets through the zone on plane and in a hurry thanks to the strength in the wrists and hands. Shows the ability to barrel the ball the other way. Smith is an above average runner from the right side. May project best at second base.
