Riverside Co. Preseason All-State: At first sight of Ellis you can’t help but project what the 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame is going to look like when he’s done growing. The #98 ranked player in the Class of 2020 State Rankings, Ellis has the look of a future power pitcher who is athletic enough to play in the outfield where the arm (86 mph) and athleticism play. The power plays at the plate, albeit in flashes. Ellis played football in high school giving his arm a rest through the fall seasons the last few years meaning there’s potential for more velo (T 88 mph) in the spring after more focus on the craft. A 4.30 GPA (1370 SAT) student, Ellis should be a highly desirable arm come the spring given his overall athleticism and just how fresh his arm is. The arm is loose and compact in the back through to a high 3/4 slot through release on a  downhill plane. Fastball shows some cut action to it while the slider flashes sharp sweeping action. Curveball has the makings of a power pitch in the future with its sharp late depth.

Uncommitted - Six-foot-4, 205-pounds. Extra-large frame with significant strength throughout the body. Ellis is a starting free safety on his high school football team and he plays baseball the same way he does football - full go! Started the day running a 7.08 60-yard dash showing an athletic, ground eating gait. Showed a compact swing that is direct to ball and long through to extension. Present power to the middle and pull side. Does a fair job of incorporating the lower half into the swing to generate some of the power. Does a very good job of keeping the barrel on plane throughout the swing. Had a hard hit single to center field in-game. Defensively he showed athletic actions in the outfield while aggressively charging and gathering the baseball out front.

Uncommitted. Ellis immediately catches your attention with his physical 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame that looks a lot like a safety in football. Ran a 7.12 sixty before moving into the BP rounds where his strength really shines. Flashes present pull side power with the ability to pepper gaps on a line. You get the impression that Ellis is still pretty raw in the game when watching him hit - can be a little stiff - but there’s no denying the power. Defensively he made every throw on the bag and on a line while demonstrating proper footwork and excellent body control.
