Today we will take a look at standout catchers from the event that showed well enough to leave a lasting impression on our team of scouts. Earlier we posted a Quick Hits story with multiple early standouts. We also released our catchers analysis piece earlier this week.

Today we look to dig a little deeper into the five catchers who have a chance to be high level backstops in college.

QUICK TAKE

We've seen Jewett several times since the spring both at PBR events and with his high school team. Jewett, the 11th ranked player in the state class of 2021 and No. 98 nationally, continues to impress behind the plate and with his bat. He also gets on the mound and commands two pitches while showing feel for a third. The bat really shows some power potential making him a high level recruit already. If he continues to show well in the Trinity League his stock as a recruit will only continue to rise.

SCOUTING REPORT

1/5/19 - SoCal Preseason All-State, 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, long, athletic frame with lots of physical projection remaining. Batting from the right side, Jewett has a nice, balanced line drive swing. In his BP round, Jewett hit the ball hard to all parts of the field and showed a very mature approach. Flashes a consistent barrel on a slightly uphill path with good leverage and usage of his lower half. Defensively, Jewett has very good skills behind the plate. Has an above average arm and made accurate throws around the bag. Sets up deep in his crouch before adjusting upwards. Is quiet and balanced with a wide base and chest sticking out towards the pitcher. Hands are very soft and his exchanges are quick and clean. Showed off his athleticism by running a 6.92 60 yard dash. Also a pitcher where he projects very well, although he did not pitch at the event.

1/5/19 - SoCal Preseason All-State Quick Hits - Jewett, the 11th ranked player in his class in the state, suffered a bit of a tweak in his back a few weeks ago but that didn't stop him from performing well at the event. After running a 6.92 60 yard dash, Jewett showed some serious juice in the bat at the plate where he sprayed line drives to the gaps and registered a 91 mph exit velocity. Showed well behind the plate where he is quiet with his body and has a big time arm popping in the 1.93 - 2.01 range on the day.
