North Carolina's Top 20 Catcher Arms of 2018

The New Year is here and the high school season is just around the corner.  In preparation for the 2019 spring season, PBR will run several events in January and February, allowing our scouts to get updates on players, and allowing players to continue their process of prep for the spring while connecting to the college coaches and pro scouts that follow PBR.

2019 PBR of NC Winter Events

Before we turn the page on 2018, lets look back at some of the statistically dominant performances of last year.  At PBR events, PBR scouts are able to collect some analytical data and add it to PBR Player Profile pages.  With over 8 million PBR Player Profile page views in 2018, PBR has created a one-stop-shop for college coaches and pro scouts to view a prospect’s notes, evaluations, video, statistics, and more.

We continue our look at the top stats of 2018 with positional velocities from catchers.  At each PBR event, catchers will workout behind the dish in a controlled setting, throwing to 2B, simulating a steal throw.  In the evaluation of catchers, scouts are looking for arm strength, arm action, accuracy, and carry.  Evaluators will take arm strength off a radar gun and add a watch to collect pop times from the time the pitch hits the catcher's mitt to the time his throw hits the middle infielders glove at 2B.  The radar gun and the watch do not tell the whole story, but it does allow for a glimpse at a player's ability to control the run game.  Below are the Top 20 positional velocities from catchers on their throws to second base.  We have also added their top pop time from that same workout.
