This year's Freshmen Free Showcase at the Maryland Sportsplex featured over 40 players from across the Old Line State, Delaware and Pennsylvania. Players participated in a pro-style workout and threw bullpens in front of our PBR Maryland and Mid-Atlantic staff. Below are some initial thoughts on 30 players from the event. Damon Breland 2B / 1B / South Hagerstown , MD / 2024

Slender 5'11'', 135 pound frame with plenty of room to fill out. Sound fundamental actions in the infield and really showed well at the plate. Load has some rhythm to it and he really does a nice job keeping his hands inside the ball. Stays on the ball well and really gets nice extension past contact. Approach and result was very consistent throughout BP working middle of the field line drives again and again.

Ben Flood C / 3B / Heights, MD / 2024

Solid 5'7'', 180 pound frame with strength. Controlled rhythmic back load and easy fluid swing through the zone. Stays short to the ball and gets the barrel on plane early. Peppered balls back up the middle showing pop in the bat with an 82 mph exit velo per TrackMan. Also showed the ability to adjust the hands and square balls up to the opposite field gap. Throws behind the dish showed accuracy to the bag at second with pop times ranging 2.20-2.25. Quiet and relaxed receiver. 

Manny Hall OF / LHP / DeMatha Catholic, MD / 2024

Athletic 5'8'', 140 pound frame thats beginning to show strength. Has grown a bunch since last winter and is showing much more pop at the dish. Worked line drives mostly middle to the pull-side. Stays short to the ball with more of a level swing path. Showed nice balance and extension past contact recording a 81 mph exit velo per TrackMan.

Carver Salazar 2B / SS / Archbishop Spalding, MD / 2024

Athletic 5'10'', 145 pound frame. Showed a fluid swing at the plate consistently barreling balls back up the middle. Controlled load with some hand rhythm and gets the barrel on plane early. Gets really nice extension through contact and does a good job working the hands showing the ability also to hit backside with some strength. Works through the ball in the infield with clean actions and some smoothness. Hands were soft and exchanges were seamless.
