GREENVILLE - There are a lot of things to consider when making a college decision. So what becomes the deciding factor?

It is often unknown until it happens. Drew Jacoby found his on a visit when meeting members of the Oakland baseball team.

“The guys there at the visit all seemed to get along,” Jacoby noted. “They introduced themselves to me and made me feel a part of the team.

“The coaches all seemed like a good fit for me. One thing I liked that they said was if you’re part of the program you’re part of the team, everybody travels. They also said they’re not going to judge me just as a freshman. If I’m ready to play, I’m going to be playing.”

That is the hope after the 33rd-ranked senior in the state committed to the Horizon League school.

“A couple weeks before the Upperclass Games I started talking to them,” Jacoby said in reference to the PBR event in early October. “I emailed them and they followed me. Then they saw a video from the Upperclass Games.”

Interest from Oakland mounted and a visit to the school two hours away from home followed.

“They like that I’m projectable,” the 6-4 210-pound Central Montcalm senior said. “They like that I’ve got a big arm and just me size. It’s something they said they can work with.

“The campus was awesome,” Jacoby continued. “It was beautiful. It was not too big but not too small that it felt crowded. And I liked the team. They got along so well.”

Jacoby looks forward to being part of it while making strides in his game before arriving on the Oakland campus.
