Chyran Humphries OF / 1B / Detroit Country Day, MI / 2022

GROSSE POINTE WOODS - Chyran Humphries knows how to make an impression.

“I started talking with Eastern Michigan after my last two tournaments with Arsenal,” the Detroit Country Day sophomore said in reference to his summer team. “They really liked what they saw. In my first two at-bats I hit two home runs.”

Interest escalated after a camp in the fall, which included a tour of the facilities.

“It felt like my home,” explained Humphries, who went on to commit to the Mid-American Conference school. “They didn’t want just players, they wanted the person. And they wanted players that were not just 90 mile-an-hour throwers.”

While Michigan, Memphis and Florida headlined other schools of interest, the 18th-rated 2022 in the state had an affection toward Eastern Michigan.

“My family is a big part of this process,” Humphries said. “They showed they had my back throughout and I didn’t want to leave the state. My dad went to Oakland on a scholarship and my mom went to Wayne State. They loved the choice I made.”

His father Carnell coached both football and baseball, two sports that Humphries excels at with Detroit Country Day.

“He retired to follow my journey and back me up,” pointed out Humphries, a left-handed hitting outfielder in baseball and a tight end/defensive end on the gridiron. “Along with my mom, they’re both part of my driving forces.”

Other family members have helped influence Humphries along the way.
