Central Coast Section, CA - Today's Central Coast Section (CCS) Focus covers my road trips from 3/14-15/19 and two games; Leigh v Santa Cruz, Christopher v Palma. We're covering two games so you know there are a lot of notes on talented players, 12 to be exact with 8 of them being uncommitted. Le'ts get right into the Game Notes and Scouting Notes with Video!

3/14/19 - Leigh at Santa Cruz: Leigh traveled into Santa Cruz and there were plenty of scouts on hand again checking out 19 SS GJ Hill for Santa Cruz. It was an evenly matched game for the first 3 innings with both teams having guys in scoring position but missing the big hit. In the 4th inning, that changed as Leigh got their bats to start connecting against 20 RHP Brady Chavez from Santa Cruz. 20 C Nathan Schwartz doubled down the LF line and scored on a double by 20 OF Evan Cooper who slashed a ball to the oppo field making it 2nd and 3rd. A sac fly added a second run before a single scored the third and final run. That would be all the offense needed as 19 RHP Giancalro Lonardo went the distance for the Longhorns striking out 10, walking 4 and giving up 2 hits. Lonardo’s only innings of trouble were the 3rd, when he loaded the bases on a HBP and 2 BB, and the 6th where his control escaped him again for 2 BB and a 1B to RF.

3/15/19 - Christopher at Palma: Christopher Cougars traveled to Salinas to face the Palma Chieftains in an early season Pacific Coast Athletic League (PCAL) match up. Christopher got on the board first in the 2nd with a dropped ball at 1st base followed by a walk, a fielder's choice and a single making it 1-0 Cougars. Palma answered in the 3rd reaching on an error at SS that was followed by a single putting runners at 2nd and 3rd before a ground out brought home the run. Christopher responded right away in their half of the 4th and were up 2-1. In the 5th, Christopher got the lead off man on with a throwing error before 2019 OF Jack Tomlinson laid down a perfect drag bunt beating the throw. The Cougars manufactured two runs on a ground out and Sac Fly to go up 4-1. Palma wasn’t going to go quietly leading off their half of the 5th with a 3B by 2020 OF Jon Jon Berring who showed off his speed standing up into 3rd base. An error scored Berring before two more singles and it was 4-3 with the bases loaded. Christopher went to 2019 RHP Andrew Kachel who got out of the bases loaded jam getting three outs on a jam shot to the 2nd baseman before a ground ball back to him started the 1-2-3 double play. Christopher got the leadoff man on in the 7th and Tomlinson laced a double over the RF head, but he was caught trying to extend the extra-base hit. That put Christopher up 5-3 and that would be it as Kachel closed the door with 3 K’s in the bottom of the 7th.
