Tate Farquhar OF / RHP / Lakeland, MI / 2022

LAKELAND - Tate Farquhar remembers competing against his older brother growing up. Now the two will be on the same side after a commitment to play baseball at Bowling Green where Trent is currently a freshman.

“There was always competition between us from the age of 12 to when he went off to college,” the Lakeland High School sophomore reflected. “We’d play baseball games in the front yard and I’d get so mad at him. I’d throw the bat at him and he’d chase me around the yard.

“Now I have a chance to be on the same team and win a MAC title with my brother. That makes it all worthwhile.”

Interest from Bowling Green came during summer ball.

“I’d been there for tournaments the past few years,” Farquhar explained. “They were recruiting my cousin (Micah Ottenbreit, a 2021 Michigan State commit) and they saw me play.”

Attending a fall prospect camp at the Mid-American Conference school ended with an offer to the 26th-ranked 2022 in Michigan.

“I stayed with my brother and went to a football game,” Farquhar noted. “I went to the camp the next day and they offered me after that.

“They know I come from a good family and they like the way I play,” Farquahr said. “It similar to my brother. They thought it was a good fit.”

The 5-11 175-pound outfielder enjoyed what he saw at BG.

“It has a great campus with outstanding facilities,” Farquhar pointed out about what attracted him to Bowling Green. “They have both majors I’m looking at - criminal justice and forensic science - and my brother is there.”

Family is a big part of the equation for Farquhar.
