OK Winter Open: Position Player Analysis

The OK Winter Open took place on Dec. 20th at the state of the art World Baseball Outreach indoor facility in Tulsa OK. With a limited number of 20 players to easily maintain social distancing, the event still featured some standout young talent. Below are the in-depth analysis of all position players at the event listed in alphabetical order. Full profiles can be seen by clicking name tile or profile picture.

Kaden Ballard 3B / 1B / Okmulgee , OK / 2022

Kaden Ballard: 3B/1B, (2022) Okmulgee, OK. 5-foot-11, 180-pound. Capable during batting practice, the switch hitter clocked an exit velocity of 83 mph off the tee. Starts in a balanced stance with a controlled load, then uses a controlled stride just before his swing. Shows advanced bat speed, long uphill swing plane and high finish. He Barreled up a couple of balls with some loud contact. Pull side approach. Raw in the infield, displayed a velocity of 74 mph; showed a clean exchange, quick feet and firm hands. Had a quick arm action and a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.74.

Carson Beam 1B / RHP / Heritage Hall, OK / 2024

Carson Beam: 1B/RHP, (2024) Heritage Hall, OK. 6-foot-3, 180-pound. Capable in the box, Beam recorded a tee exit velocity of 74 mph. Began in a balanced athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a toe tap before his swing. Had flat swing plane, above average bat speed and high finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Up the middle approach. His best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 82 mph. Projectable in the infield, his best throw was recorded at 77 mph; has choppy quick feet, consistent hands and a clean exchange. Showed consistent accuracy with a high ¾ slot and a short arm action. Clocked a 60 time of 7.83 at the event.

Eli Buxton RHP / 1B / Charles Page, OK / 2024

Eli Buxton: RHP/1B, (2024) Charles Page, OK. 6-foot-2, 165-pound. Projectable at the plate, Buxton's best exit velocity off the tee was 84 mph. Began in an open tall stance with a controlled load, then used a controlled stride to initiate his swing. Has uphill swing plane, above average bat speed and high finish. He found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Up the middle approach. Smooth in the infield, displayed a throwing velocity of 76 mph; has sure hands, a clean exchange and fluid feet. Had an-over-the-top slot and a long arm action with consistent accuracy to the bag. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.87. Showed some arm speed with a long arm action and an over-the-top arm angle.

Max Cullison C / 3B / Norman North, OK / 2021

Max Cullison: C/3B, (2021) Norman North, OK. 6-foot, 185-pound. Advanced in the box, Cullisons best exit velocity was 77 mph off of the tee. Begins in a quiet athletic stance with a smooth load, then uses a short stride to initiate his swing. Has flat swing plane, above average bat speed and level finish. He found tons of barrels with a lot of loud contact. Up the middle approach. Behind the plate, his best position velocity throwing to second was registered at 72 mph; has a quick exchange, consistent feet and soft hands. He had a pop time of 2.08-2.15.Used an-over-the-top slot and a short arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the bag. Recorded a 60 time of 7.32 at the event.

Ashton Hartwig OF / LHP / Deer Creek, OK / 2024

Ashton Hartwig: OF/LHP, (2024) Deer Creek, OK. 5-foot-8, 135-pound. Above average at the plate, Hartwig's best exit velocity was 81 mph. Begins in a balanced quiet stance with a smooth load, then uses a small leg kick. Bat speed was above average, used flat short swing plane and level finish. A projectable swing with present hand speed. In the round, he found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Up the middle approach. Athletic in the outfield, his best throws to the infield topped out at 81 mph; showed sure hands, athletic consistent feet and a quick exchange. Used a compact arm action with a high ¾ slot while showing consistent accuracy to the bag. Clocked a 60 time of 7.35 at the event.

Wes Hicks C / 1B / Edmond Memorial, OK / 2021

Wes Hicks: C/1B, (2021) Edmond Memorial, OK. 5-foot-11, 190-pound. Advanced during batting practice, Hicks clocked an exit velocity of 86 mph off the tee. Begins in a wide athletic stance with a big smooth load, then uses a big leg kick before his swing. Bat speed is explosive, uses uphill swing plane and high finish. Through the round he found lots of barrels with a lot of loud contact. Pull side approach. While catching, his best throw downs of the day reached a max velocity of 73 mph; has quick consistent feet, soft hands and a quick clean exchange. Braydon Hutchings: 2B/OF, (2021) Edison Preparatory, OK. 5-foot-9, 155-pound. During batting practice, the right-handed hitters best exit velocity was 79 mph off the tee. Started in a balanced open stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride before his swing. Bat speed is above average, uses flat swing plane and high finish. During his round he produced some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Up the middle approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws up to 79 mph; showed sure hands, a clean exchange and consistent smooth feet. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a high ¾ slot and a short arm action. Clocked a 60 time of 7.13 at the event.

Turner Kinzer SS / 2B / Edmond Memorial, OK / 2023

Turner Kinzer: SS/2B, (2023) Edmond Memorial, OK. 5-foot-8, 155-pound. In the box, the right-handed hitters best exit velocity was 70 mph off the tee. Joseph Ijams: SS/2B, (2022) Booker T Washington, OK. 5-foot-10, 150-pound. Projectable at the plate, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 84 mph off the tee. Starts in an open balanced stance with a big load, then uses a big leg kick. Bat speed was explosive, had flat swing plane and level finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Starts in a wide open stance with a controlled load, then uses a toe tap to start his swing. Showed some bat speed, displayed flat swing plane and level finish. In his round he found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Opposite field approach. Capable in the infield, displayed a velocity of 70 mph; had consistent footwork, a quick exchange and consistent hands. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a short arm action and a high ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.34.

Cooper Moore RHP / C / Bixby, OK / 2023

Cooper Moore: C/SS, (2023) Bixby, OK. 5-foot-11, 165-pound. Advanced during batting practice, Moore had a max exit velocity of 82 mph off the tee. Began in an athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a controlled stride before his swing. Had level swing plane, explosive bat speed and high finish. Found lots of barrels with tons of loud contact. Up the middle approach. Athletic showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 87 mph; had a clean exchange, athletic footwork and sure consistent hands. Behind the plate, his best position velocity throwing to second was registered at 75 mph; showed a clean exchange, quick athletic feet and soft sure hands. Displayed next-level catching ability by boasting a 1.90-2.09 pop time. Used a quick arm action with a high ¾ slot while showing consistent accuracy to the bag. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.28.

Ethan Moore RHP / 1B / Booker T. Washington, OK / 2023

Ethan Moore: RHP/1B, (2023) Booker T. Washington, OK. 6-foot-2, 225-pound. Above average at the plate, Moore had an exit velocity of 88 mph. Started in a balanced athletic stance with a big load, then used a big leg kick to start his swing. Has explosive bat speed, flat swing plane and level finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Pull side approach. Projectable In the infield, has choppy feet, a developing exchange and firm hands. Used an-over-the-top slot with a quick arm action while showing some accuracy to the bag. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.33.

Trystin Pauls OF / RHP / N/A, OK / 2021

Trystin Pauls: OF/RHP, (2021) Home School, OK. 6-foot-2, 185-pound. Projectable at the plate, Pauls had a max exit velocity of 86 mph off the tee. Started in a balanced tall stance and had a short stride. Has some bat speed, short flat swing plane and level finish. He created some loud contact and found some barrels. Up the middle approach. From the outfield, he showed the ability to throw at velocities up to 85 mph. Smooth In the infield, showed consistent fluid feet, a clean fluid exchange and sure hands. From a high ¾ slot, showed some accuracy to the base with a short arm action.

Hunter Stockton: 2B/3B, (2023) Cascia Hall, OK. 5-foot-8, 170-pound. Capable during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 75 mph off the tee.
