Scouting Report
The North Carolina State commit drew a lot of attention with well over 25 MLB Scouts on hand to watch his performance. High waisted and thin, standing 6-foot-4, 175 pounds. Good rhythm in the delivery building to his release with an average leg kick to the bottom of the chest and the line through his shoulders angling slightly toward a left handed hitter. Consistently breaks his hands on time, working with athleticism through a medium arm swing and to a high-3/4 slot. Lands just slightly on the arm side of his line, with a square foot, creating good extension through the target. Very quick arm producing fastballs that ranged 88-92 early, and settled at 87-90 in his final two innings. Commands the fastball to both sides, still working to elevate when he wants to. The breaking ball comes out of the same slot as the fastball with a hard, late 1/7 tilt as it approaches the hitting zone. Early in the game, and early in counts, the curveball has more downer tilt, landing the pitch at an impressive rate. Later in counts, Walston created explosive, late sweep, under right handed hitter’s bats for punch out opportunities. Change-up is the third pitch, but seems serviceable at 78-81, throwing it with some rhythm and feel.
