PBR Scout Day: South Charlotte Panthers - Statistical Analysis

On Monday September 4^th, Prep Baseball Report ran a PBR Scout Day with the South Charlotte Panthers organization. The day included players from the South Charlotte Panthers and the South Charlotte Cougar programs. Players from the programs ran through a complete pro style workout at Providence High School.

Many talented players were on hand for the day, led by 2018 RHP/SS Owen White (Carson HS), a South Carolina commit. White is ranked the No. 1 player in the 2018 class in North Carolina and No. 14 overall. White, working back into form after time off prior to the fall, showed athleticism and quickness with strength in the 6-foot-3 frame. Exit velocity peaked at 92 mph off the bat and the arm showed its electric nature at 92 mph across the diamond. In the bullpen, it was a very controlled, easy effort pumping 87-89 with movement, never really letting it go.

Offensively, several players really stood out. Quin Ferguson (2019, Mooresville HS, OF) led all sixty times with a laser timed 6.80. He also showed quickness with the bat, registering an exit velocity of 87 mph off the barrel. Carson Lowder (2019, North Stanley HS, SS) produced the high exit velocity at 97 mph off the barrel. Quick hands and strength in the swing showed in the live BP setting as well. When on the barrel, the ball really jumps. Lowder also turned in a sub 7.00 sixty. Reed Hedberg is coming off an injury and beginning to round into form, showing a feel for the barrel and running his exit velocity up to 89 mph.

On the bump, several pitchers were making their first fall appearance on the mound, still showing good stuff as they amp up for the fall season. Trey Donathan (2019, Charlotte Christian, SS/RHP) may be somewhat new to the mound but his arm strength does carry over. Working up to 89 mph across the diamond, the righty touched 86 throughout his bullpen. It is raw, but the arm strength is apparent. Trey Tujetsch (2019, Ardrey Kell HS, RHP/OF) sat 83-86 with ease, showing a feel for three pitches throughout the bullpen. The South Carolina commit’s fastball has been higher this past summer and the bullpen was thrown with an ease about him. Jonathan Jagielski (2018, Charlotte Christian, LHP) and Hayden Setzer (2018, East Rowan HS, LHP) are two uncommitted lefties to keep an eye on this fall. Jagielski worked up to 85 and ran a 7.04 sixty, showing athleticism in a 6-foot-2, 170 pound frame. He also touched 89 from right field in his defensive workout. Setzer popped the radar gun at 87 from the outfield and 86 from the infield. On the bump, the slot seems to be a little lower, creating run and movement at 81 mph. Both lefties showed some feel with the bat as well at 86 off the barrel.
