Top Prospect - St. Louis: Missouri Catchers

The third annual Top Prospect Games - St. Louis, took place Tuesday, June 4th. The invite-only event brought together some of the top uncommitted 2020s from Missouri and Illinois to SIU-Edwardsville. The event consisted of a showcase in the morning and games in the afternoon with 30+ colleges in attendance.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance.

Here is a closer look at the Missouri Catchers from the event, listed in alphabetical order.

Missouri Catchers

Chayton Beck C / SS / Liberty , MO / 2020

Beck is a 6-foot-2 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.87 home to first and an 89 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance, smooth rhythm, level path with hard consistent line drives, gap to gap approach, creates leverage, loose hands with feel for the barrel.  Behind the plate, pop times between 1.95 and 2.05, 76 mph positional velocity, quick actions, staggered set up in base, over the top arm slot, gains ground replacing feet with momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws, some with carry to the bag.

Zach Dillman C / RHP / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2020

Dillman has a physical frame at 6-foot-1 190-pounds, is a right handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.26 home to first and had a 98 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance with small leg kick and slight hip rotation to load, smooth acceleration to contact with fast bat speed, gap to gap approach with power to the pull side.  Behind the plate, pop times between 1.95 and 2.08-seconds, accurate thrower with over the top arm slot, quick footwork with clean exchange, throws showed carry to the bag, 81 mph positional velocity,

Chuck Ingram C / OF / Rockhurst, MO / 2020

Ingram is a strong and athletic 6-foot 195-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.29 home to first and had a 99 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance, controlled leg kid, accelerates with quick bat speed to contact, level path, stays on ball after contact, power to middle and pull side of the field, showed good barrel awareness, hard consistent contact.  Behind the plate, 1.99-2.06 pop times, 82 mph positional velocity, staggered set up, replaces feet, mostly accurate thrower, clean exchange with hands, on time with feet, throws have carry. 

Erik Kiewiet C / 3B / Francis Howell, MO / 2020

Kiewiet is well built 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 5.01 home to first and had an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, minimal hand load, short stride, level path, line drive gap to gap during hitting evals.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.18 and 2.26, short over the top release with fluid footwork and exchange,  accurate throws with carry, 74 mph positional velocity.

Caden Matlon C / 3B / Grain Valley, MO / 2020

Matlon is a strong, 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.8 home to first and has an 87 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, short and smooth load to back side, no wasted hand movement, short and in line stride, loose hand, mostly middle to pull side contact.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.12 and 2.25-seconds, 73 mph positional velocity, square base in set up, clean exchange on time with smooth footwork, quick release, throws are mostly accurate to the bag. 

Tommy Mohan C / 1B / Parkway West, MO / 2020

Mohan is an athletically built 6-foot 190-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.94 home to first and has an 89 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance, minimal load, attacks ball, level path that works inside the ball to contact, gap to gap line drives.  Behind the plate, staggered set up with high exchange, over the top release, clean actions, pop times between 2.07 and 2.22-seconds, 75 mph positional velocity.
