The 2020 spring season was shortened but the summer circuit was played with very few hiccups across the board. We recently released our updated 2021 National Rankings and with that brings an update on the state level. As we worked our way through the summer both on the state and national levels, more light has been shed on Louisiana’s 2021 class. After the winter and spring updates saw some minor changes throughout the rankings, summer action provided more shifting as some have established themselves as prospects going into their senior year. Here are some highlights in the update...
+ Arkansas recruit, SS Peyton Stovall (Haughton HS, LA) takes over the top spot in the updated class of 2021 rankings. A physical 6-foot, 175-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder, Stovall has established himself as a top bat in the 2021 class. When you add the ability to defend in the middle, the package elevates Stovall to the top of Louisiana’s 2021 rankings.
+ Louisiana State recruit, SS Connor Simon (St. Paul’s HS, LA) falls to the number two spot. An athletic 6-foot middle infielder, Simon is still widely regarded as the top infield defender in the 2021 class. Since entering high school, he’s shown advanced feel and instincts to defend at shortstop with soft hands, actions, and arm strength across. With these two middle infield prospects at the top of the rankings, this season will be exciting to follow.
+ Mississippi recruit, RHP Blake McGehee (Tioga HS, LA) continues to creep up the Top 10 after exploding onto the scene last summer and continuing his upward trend over the course of the last year. McGehee has flashed low 90’s velocity with feel for 3 pitches and top end pitchability from an efficient delivery. McGehee got off to an impressive start in the spring season then followed it up with strong summer as he’s moved up to the No. 8 spot in Louisiana’s 2021 class.
+ Uncommitted prospect, RHP Grant Fontenot (Lafayette HS, LA) exploded this summer as makes his top-10 debut in the 2021 rankings. The projection right-hander became a hot name over the summer drawing the attention of many professional scouts in the area. Fontenot was seen up to 94 mph this summer and had the opportunity to perform in several of the summer’s premier events. After showing big arm strength from a projectable frame, Fontenot moves up to the No. 7 spot in Louisiana’s state rankings.
+ Louisiana Tech recruit, RHP/OF Kenya Huggins Jr. (St. Augustine HS, LA) is another prospect that has made a sizable jump in the updated rankings. Kenya checks in at No. 8 after a standout summer highlighted by a PBR Showdown performance where he was up to 94 mph with a power slider. Huggins has always been a strong follow but this summer pushed him higher on the list as he flashed big arms strength on the mound while also continuing to display plus, right-handed power in the box. As he enters his senior year, the physical
