Prospects to Know: 2021 MIF

With Summer fast approaching and the uncertainty of club schedules, recruiting opportunities and travel, the PBR Colorado Staff is focused highlighting this talented group of 2021’s.  PROSPECTS TO KNOW intends to create effortless lists of Colorado’s top players to follow in this promising class.  

Our 2020 Class currently has 104 players committed to playing collegiate baseball.  At this time, Colorado has 9 announced commitments in this 2021 class.  (Cale Lansville, RHP, ThunderRidge, LSU), (Ryan Ure, LHP, Eaton, Oklahoma State) (Greysen Carter, RHP, Fairview, Vanderbilt), (Alec Willis, RHP, Regis Jesuit, Minnesota), (Landon Boyd, C, Legend, Oklahoma), (Adam Moser, OF, Fairview, Oklahoma), (Radek Birkholz, RHP/SS, Valor Christian, Notre Dame),   (Logan Carlisle, RHP, Chatfield , Air Force), JD Jones, C, Fairview, Miami).

Roenikk Hernandez SS / 2B / Pine Creek, CO / 2021

Body: 5’9” 170
Run: 6.92  60
Hit: RHH  Wide base, front side tilt.  Sway load to backside. Minimal movements with good Rhythm.  Small heel lift for stride. Attacking and aggressive hands Quick bat speed.  Very good rear side acceleration and torso acceleration. Live drive pull side tendency.  Full follow through with one hand finish. Exit Velo 85.  
Power:  See Roenikk as Gap to Gap 1B’s and 2B’s hitter with ability to turn 2B’s into 3B’s with his speed. Athlete with strong desire. Good Colorado Infield Follow!!
Arm/Defense: OF Velo 78 Cut the distance and good athleticism.  Catch to release transition shows athleticism. INF  Velo 73 Great energy. Quick feet into fielding position.  Hands played through ball to gather and great rhythm and momentum to throw. 

Alex Champagne SS / 2B / Heritage, CO / 2021

Uncommitted. Bats left throws right. Had an excellent day with two doubles and a single, he exhibits a compact swing from the left side with little or no wasted movement, his hands work well and he showed very good bat speed, home to first time was a 4.2 on a ball that he didn't get out of the box clean.  He also made two outstanding relay throws to the plate from the outfield showing arm strength and quickness of release. Currently hitting .412 on the season with 6 doubles, and a triple. with a .556 OBA. 

Jacob Weaver SS / 2B / Fruita Monument High School, CO / 2021

Uncommitted, 6-foot-0, 160-pound MIF who bats and throws right. Stands tall at the plate with a slow load to his backside. Long arms create whip through the zone with a slight uphill path to the ball. Strong lower leg drive creates an 80 MPH exit velocity with several hard ball s hit during the live round. Smooth actions in the field with good feet and balance. Showcased a quick glove to hand transfer and accuracy across the diamond. Arm played at 74 MPH.  Projectable player and one to follow over the next few years.

Gavin Schmeh SS / 2B / Brighton, CO / 2021

Uncommitted. 5-foot-9, 150 pounds. Switch hitter, throws right. Swing from the right side is smooth and slightly open. During live round every swing produced solid contact from both sides of the plate. He doesn't get cheated.  He uses a high leg kick to trigger the swing and lower half drives through the ball. Left side swing start open is a long stride to come square.  Stays on the back side during the swing.  Swing path is uphill and hits to the ball to all fields. Produced an exit velo of 87 mph from both sides of the plate. In the field pre-positions well, and had good range to both sides. Good hands and above average arm throwing 84 mph across the diamond with accuracy. Ran a simulated dry swing home to first at 4.38.  

Ty Chapman SS / 3B / Grandview Highschool, CO / 2021

A 6-foot, 155-pound right hand hitting SS/3B ran a 6.99 laser timed 60. Open stance starting slightly crouched. Strides forward and lands on line. Rolls front shoulder close at load with minimal hand movement. Bat path is flat with line drive tendencies and is quick out of the zone. Exit velocity was 75 mph off the pitch. . Works behind the ball on defense with active feet on approach. Exchange is clean and moves to a longer arm circle throwing from a three-quarter arm slot at 74 mph. 

Westin Miller SS / 2B / Wheat Ridge, CO / 2021

5-foot-6, 118-pound right hand hitting MIF who ran a 7.50 60. Lean middle infielder, balanced setup, wrap load, short stride, maintains balance through contact. Opposite field approach, long, uphill barrel path, 78 mph exit velocity off a tee. Defensively anticipates well and rounds the baseball.  Quick transfer and high ¾ release.  Arm played at 69 mph.

Jackson Woolwine OF / 2B / Boulder High, CO / 2021

Woolwine is an athletic 5-foot-9, 145-pound right hand hitting outfielder in the 2021 class. He has fast twitch muscles and recorded a 6.99 60 at this event. From the outfield he shows good instincts and anticipates well and ran down several balls in the gaps. Arm is over the top and accurate and plays at 82 mph. At the plate he stands slightly open with a big load to the backside. Weight fires through the zone and his swing is slightly uphill. Good gap to gap approach with several doubles on the weekend. Exit velocity was 89 mph.

Kolton Miller SS / Ponderosa, CO / 2021




Will Sevier SS / C / Arapahoe, CO / 2021

Hit:Right-handed hitter that starts in an athletic setup. Easy, fluid moves that create balance and energy into launch. Path plays and he has an above average combination of strength/speed to hands. Landed on balls in BP. Impressive round.
Power: Gap abilities.
Offensive Projection:Run Producer traits. 
Field: Utility defender that showed an above average skill set in the infield as well. Could see him behind the dish or in the infield.
Throw: Arm plays as a big tool at both spots.
