New Episode LIVE now! - At The Yard Podcast

LATHROP, CA. - Players were put through a pro-style workout that included the 60-yard sprint, a round of batting practice, defensive workouts at respective positions, and concluded with competitive at-bat sessions for pitchers/hitters.

Most of the players were attending their first ever PBR California event, giving us a first look at these players in a showcase setting. Some we had seen in previous events or travel ball games last fall.

We will roll out positional breakdowns in the coming days, but until then we’ll take a brief look at some standouts from the weekend in Quick Hits.

(Note: Players are listed in alphabetical order. All showcase videos will be added to player profiles in the near future.)

Lean & long w/plenty of frame that will expand & he can grow into, clean arm & mechanics, FB with life through zone, good spin & feel of the CB, split can be a plus pitch

Jake McKowen RHP / 3B / Del Campo hs, CA / 2024

6-4 170 / 60 YD 7.94 / FB 83T / SL 74-77 / CHG 73-74

L/R / 5-11 160 / 60 YD 7.66 / EV 81 / OF VELO 77

The raw stats don't jump off the page, rather, it was the slashing LHH stroke & feel for the bat, along w/athletic actions & confident demeanor that stood out

Reclassified 2025

Austin Nye C / SS / Roseville hs, CA / 2024

R/R / 5-10 165 / 60 YD 8.14 / EV 86 / IF VELO 80 / C VELO 72 / POPS 2.04-2.11

Chance to be among the best backstops in his class in the region, tools showed up in field, at plate, and behind plate, strong body, can develop more agility in legs

Cal Randall RHP / 3B / De La Salle hs, CA / 2023

R/R / 6-2 175 / 60 YD 7.59 / EV 80 / IF VELO 76 / FB 83 T / SL 69-74

Talent/tools are certainly present, loose live arm on mound, FB comes out EZ, SL has good bite & thrown w/feel, control will improve, chance to develop as 3B too

Michael Ryan OF / Gridley hs, CA / 2023

R/R / 6-1 155 / 60 YD 7.44 / EV 81 / IF VELO 77 / FB 80T

Live arm & there is also life in the bat, still a considerable ways from physical peak so the projectability of the arm & raw stuff points WAY up, lots of arm side life

Jack Surdey RHP / SS / St. Francis hs, CA / 2023

R/R / 6-1 160 / 60 YD 7.31 / EV 73 / IF VELO 77 / FB 79T / SL 66-69

Lean/wiry w/athletic proportions & athletic actions, strength obviously will continue to develop, the arm is clean & easy, good feel for zone, SL chance to be abv avg

Braxton Thomas 1B / Central Catholic hs, CA / 2023

L/L / 5-11 235 / 60 YD 8.45 / EV 93 / 1B VELO 70

First glance brings to mind a mauling type hitter, but in addition to the 93 EV, in competitive ABs he showed great hands & swing adjustability, real chance to hit

Andrew Witt SS / C / Garces Memorial hs, CA / 2024

R/R / 5-9 140 / 60 YD 7.19 / EV 79 / INF VELO 76

Sneaky performer he's one to check in on over the coming years, excellent hitting mechanics/feel, arm is good & will improve w/strength, 'ballplayer' w/talent/skill
