LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - As we recently released our updated Class of 2021 state rankings we thought we'd provide you a closer look at a few of these prospects. Rankings are never easy and we certainly know they are not an exact science. Much of rankings is predicated on what our team of scouts have seen, but given the national scope of the Prep Baseball Report network, we are more than able to access a library of over 100,00 players nationwide to compare apples-to-apples.

It's a given that California is either 1 or 1a in terms of talent in any given year. There isn't that much debate as to who the top players are because they've generally been identified at a much younger age. After all, the top players are easily identified. However, given the amount of games, innings, at-bats, pitches our team has seen over the last two-to-three years of watching this class, we feel confident knowing that nobody in the industry has seen more players in addition to those easily identified from California than our collective team.

And because of that level of confidence we feel our rankings best reflect the overall talent in the state.

Earlier we looked at left-handed pitchers, right-handed pitchers and catchers. Now it's time to take a look at a few of the top ranked first basemen in the state for 2021 class. You can read full available scouting reports and view available video by clicking on the the player name.

THE PLAYERS

#26 BLAKE BURKE - DE LA SALLE - TENNESSEE COMMIT

The 6-foot-3 235 pound left-handed hitting first baseman fits the bill as a prototypical middle of the order power bat. Displays easy loft and power as the bat explodes upwards through the zone depositing balls over the right-field fence at a high rate. Defensively he’s got the tools to be a very good first baseman; shows consistent ability to scoop balls out of the dirt, strong footwork around the bag, capable of making all necessary throws and plays with confidence in the form of leadership ability. He will be facing a big jump in competition and game play in the SEC and it will be interesting to see how he adjusts and develops at the next level.

#30 KADEN MOELLER - DAMIEN - LONG BEACH STATE COMMIT

Physical left-hander with natural ability and a projectable skill set. The swing is pure, consistent and violent. Maintains a consistent on barrel plane through the hitting zone. Possesses good arm strength from the left side as he sits comfortably at 85-86 mph from the mound and shows that off with crisp throws around the infield while playing first base. Defensively average and should see improvement with maturity and sole focus on the position. Versatile left-hander that could make an impact at the next level sooner rather than later.

#92 COLE HOWARTH - CHINO HILLS - UNCOMMITTED

The uncommitted 6-foot-5 200 pound right-handed hitting first baseman continues to physically mature and possess more athleticism than perceived. Howarth shows clean efficient swing mechanics and his power projects well. Defensive actions are solid at first base with excellent flexibility for his size, natural footwork around the bag and portrays an ideal target to his infielders. One of the more exciting uncommitted players to watch.
