Scouting Report
6-foot-2, 178-pound solid frame. During batting practice, Turner displayed an exit velocity of 95 mph, showing his strength and power ability. Setup is comprised of balanced stance and a short stride. Had quick bat speed, uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. Through his round he found multiple barrels with loud contact. Pull side approach. In the infield, recorded a position velocity of 83 mph; has a fluid exchange, consistent feet and sure hands. Had a quick arm action and consistent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.07.
Turner has really added nice size and strength over the last year and the skills have shown nice development as well. Slightly open toe tap approach at the plate with some definite tilt in the swing path. Did a nice job of staying short with the hands and barrel and repeatedly worked the middle to RCF gap during BP. There is some strength in the hands as well. Liked the approach, also had a 2B to RCF in game play. Defensively, the arm strength is solid (81 mph across the diamond) and loved the footwork on the dirt as well as the momentum through the throw. There is some quick twitch in his actions.
McGwire Turner (2022, SS/OF, Helena) 5’11 135 lbs- 7.19.18- another young player at the event that ran an 8.28 60 yard dash while showing an IF velo of 68 mph. His glovework was solid with good presentation of the glove and fluid actions. At the plate, he had an exit velo of 76 mph from a slightly open stance with an inside out approach and a backside approach.
